Fashion Students Glitz And Glamour In African Print At DU BOIS Center

Guests at the W.E.B Du Bois center were thrilled to glamourous music and glittering fashion display of authentic African fabrics by final year students of Accra Technical University, in commemoration of the African Union Day.
The students numbering over 200, took turns to practicalize their fashion cat walk, in outfits designed and sewn by themselves and amateur stylish in the fashion industry. The event which begun on Friday the 18th of May attracted the presence of the Hon. Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Madam Catherine Afeku. She underscored the need to popularize the wear Ghana, eat Ghana, Buy Ghana campaign to the world.
Delivering the opening address, Mrs. Emma Donkor said; ‘this evening we will witness fashion displays from over 200 students who have completed their course of study. Today’s event is to showcase the rich clothing culture of Africa through fashion’, she noted.
The theme for the event, “Sustaining Africa’s Authentic Fashion and Clothing Industry” was carefully chosen to coincide with the celebration of this year’s African Union Day. The theme is worded to illicit discussion on the need to admonish our fashion and clothing industry through the promotion of a variety of African clothing designs.
Some of the clothing concepts designed by the students include Harmonious colours, piano impressions, Erotic Angel, Angels trumpet in Afrocentrism, pearls of highway among a variety of others, were don and modelled in, to the admiration and applause of all the teeming crowd.
In a tete a tete with some of the student models, they expressed satisfaction at the turn out of events since the programme begun. Most of them were excited to have completed their course and submitted themselves for assessment through this event.
The night will surely be etched in the minds of participants and attendees, the titillating African fabrics and designs and stage performances.
