The Mechanical Lab, Ametrol Lab, and Refrigeration Shop of Accra Technical University saw enthusiastic students from the Mechanical Engineering Department during a week-long practical workshop held from Monday, July 24, 2023, to Friday, July 28, 2023. The event aimed to enhance the students’ practical expertise in the field of automotive mechanics.

Under the guidance of Dr. Moro Adams, the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, the students embarked on a series of hands-on activities designed to bolster their understanding and skills in mechanical engineering. This initiative, a fundamental part of the academic curriculum, received support from the West Africa Vehicle Academy, which provided essential equipment and materials for the workshop.

Dr. Adams highlighted the significance of practical experience in the education of aspiring mechanical engineers. He noted, “Theoretical knowledge is essential, but it’s through practical application that students truly internalize concepts and develop problem-solving skills. These skills are critical in the real-world scenarios they will face in their careers.”

Throughout the week, the students engaged in a diverse range of drills focused on key areas of mechanical engineering within the automotive sector: Automotive AC Systems Maintenance, AC Service Station Operation, Troubleshooting Automotive AC Systems and Electrical Component Repair. 

The workshop climaxed on Friday, July 28, 2023, marking the successful completion of a week filled with practical learning and skill development. Students expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to bridge the gap between theory and practice, gaining invaluable insights that will undoubtedly serve them well in their future careers.

The initiative not only provided students with hands-on experience but also fostered collaboration between Accra Technical University and the West Africa Vehicle Academy. This partnership showcased the commitment of educational institutions and industry experts to equip students with the practical skills needed to excel in the competitive field of mechanical engineering.
